The tragic tale of Philip Aylesford Philip was an aristocratic - TopicsExpress

The tragic tale of Philip Aylesford Philip was an aristocratic Englishman, living in the middle 1600s at the time of Oliver Cromwell. He had been a supporter of the King, and was a Catholic. He was married to a beautiful but cold and frigid wife, Dorothea, the daughter of a neighboring nobleman. One day when out riding on the boundaries of his estates Philip came across a gypsy encampment and saw there a beautiful, dark-eyed, raven-haired gypsy girl, Margo, and fell instantly in love with her. He brought her back secretly to live in the gatehouse, near the stables of Diddington Manor – his family home. For some time he kept his love-nest secret, but eventually Dorothea, realizing he was keeping someone else there, found Margo, and accused her of witchcraft and stealing her husband. Philip was too scared of losing his reputation and his possessions to protest at the trial of Margo, and she was convicted of witchcraft and burned at the stake. Philip was subsequently stricken with remorse that he had not tried to defend Margo and used to pace the battlements of Diddington in despair. Finally, one morning his body was found at the bottom of the battlements, whence he had cast himself in a fit of agony and remorse.” -Toronto Society for Psychical Research (TSPR), 1970 Soon after Philip’s self-inflicted demise he began to make contact with the living, communicating through spirit boards and physic visions. Aylesford spoke of his life, death, Margo’s beauty as well as current (1970s) events. So what made Philips so special? …he was completely FICTIONAL! The Toronto Society for Psychical Research decided to test a theory that proposed that ghosts were simply manifestations of the mind and through the power of the collective unconscious could “create” an entity to which they and others could communicate. The Philip experiment was a success. Philip not only appeared to TSPR but to other individuals not involved in the original experiment. How is this possible? Was Philip actually “given life” via extreme concentration and intention or where other people secretly joining the ruse? The tulpa The tulpa or thoughtform is a concept in mysticism in which an object or being may be created through spiritual concentration and mental discipline. This concept is covered in many religions and spiritual practices from Tibetan theology to Voodoo constructs. While the belief in this “being” can hold great supernatural power such as consultation via divination or conduces, the tulpa concept can easily be understood by relating it to a child’s imaginary friend. The child creates the being through necessity and therefore facilitates the energy needed to keep the tulpa alive. While this is one explanation for the Philip entity others believe in something more sinister. Demonic impersonation Some spiritualist and paranormal investigators claim that a demon or other nefarious spirit will act as a ghost or less dangerous entity in order to lure in prospective victims. While this behavior is quite rare there are numerous examples of this phenomenon. Calling ghosts (or more correctly calling demons) for example, will mimic humans, often sounding like familiar voices or someone in distress which intern lead the victim astray often never to be heard from again. Fallacious intention Another explanation for Philip, an arguably the most logical, is that everyone who encountered Philip was being deceitful. This behavior while unfortunate is a lot easier to accomplish than creating a being from sheer concentration. Other popular, although “fake” entities Slenderman The Slenderman is an alleged entity reported to be four to eight feet tall, wears a black suit, has the power to mesmerize his victims and has retractable tentacles at which he can catch his prey. The Slenderman has reportedly been around for centuries and has been photographed and reported countless times. The truth, however, the Slenderman entity is entirely fictional. The Slenderman tale was created on June 10, 2009 by user Victor Surge on the Something Awful internet forums. Despite this fact the entity is still being reported. The most likely scenario is that the individuals seeing the Slenderman are either making false claims or misidentifying the entity. While there are several cultures that have similar entities, the most likely “paranormal explanation” is shadow people. Shadow people have been reported in all shapes and sizes, wearing suits and fedoras and exhibiting various behaviors. The shadow people phenomenon is not a recent one. Some of the earliest cultures (Native Americans, Celtic and Norse) reference shadow people in their religious and spiritual texts depicting them as guardians, omens, demons etc. The Rake In 2006, an anonymous individual posted a thread on the 4chan website with the intention of creating a monster. As the thread progressed, the monster did too, the description is as follows: “Alright, this is for the people who like the three-eyes, no apparent mouth, and pale skin tone. Here’s what we’ve got so far: Humanoid, about six feet tall when standing, but usually crouches and walks on all fours. It has very pale skin. The face is blank. As in, no nose or mouth. However, it has three solid green eyes, one in the middle of its forehead, and the other two on either side of its head, towards the back. Usually seen in front yards in suburban areas. Usually just watches the observer, but will stand up and attack if approached. When it attacks, a mouth opens up, as if a hinged skull that opens at the chin. Reveals many tiny, but dull teeth. This eventually formed into what we now know as “The Rake”, however, the entity was revised more than once “The Rake went through many design and name changes during its beginning. One of the more prevalent names was “Operation Crawler”. Below are a couple of the “checkpoints” from the thread where it originated. 6 feet tall is good humanoid pale greyish skin 2 large eyes on the front of the head no nose mouth that is slightly visible, then opens on a hinge hundreds of dull but not blunt teeth eats meat genitals don’t matter because no interviews really talk about that seen in suburban areas minding its own business attacks when approached but mostly just stares at people looks human enough to be able to disguise with fedora and trench coat or similar Revised again, “Approximately 6’ tall, but seen crouching Humanoid Pale, greyish skin 2 slightly larger than human eyes No nose Mouth that is smaller than human, but when provoked or attacked, opens freely on a hinge down to the neckline, showing hundreds of dull, but not blunt teeth Unknown origin Unknown Diet Seen in suburban areas Opens it’s mouth and widens its eyes when provoked, attacks when approached If not provoked or approached, just stares” - knowyourmeme/memes/the-rake As you can see this entity is clearly a fake. This hasn’t stopped “the Rake” from being encountered several times, including an appearance on Monsters and Mysteries in America (Season 2, Episode 10). While I’m convinced that reported sightings of “The Rake” are entirely fabricated, there are few examples that bare similar characteristics to “The Rake”. Some similar entities include the Native American Wendigo, and the Filipino Aswang. BEK Black Eyed Kids or BEK are an interesting topic of discussion. While there are no concrete theories to their origin, and those who experience a BEK encounter are often left feeling horrified or in some sort of grave danger, they also seem very “Hollywood”. Blackout contact lenses have been on the market for several years, and since the eyes are the windows to the soul solid black eyes are easily depicted as demonic. Hollywood agrees, demons with blacked out eyes have been a staple in recent horror movies and television programs. Some theories for BEKs include: aliens, multidimensional beings, shape shifters and of course, demons. I stand firmly behind the adolescent angst theory, and will continue to do so until I have my own unexplainable BEK encounter. When we as humans experience something frightening our perception of the encounter is skewed. Adrenaline and fear can contort natural phenomenon and make it appear paranormal (xenonormal phenomenon). Hearing spooky stories can provide a power of suggestion effect causing our imaginations to run wild. Whatever the reason may be, xenonormal, paranormal, supernatural or fabricated the honest truth lies just beyond our reach. This wiggle room of knowledge and understanding is what causes our fear of the unknown. Through research, investigation and a little dumb luck I feel we as a spiritual race will one day unlock the mysteries of our habitation.
