There is more to be offered within a life surrendered to Christ - TopicsExpress

There is more to be offered within a life surrendered to Christ than the hyper polished, holy huddled, politically driven sect of Christianity that we see so often in our culture. Theres more to the teaching of Christ than the slogans and sayings that we so often confine it to. In a worldly sense, there is absolutely nothing safe or generic about following Christ. The gospel tears us away from self preservation and predictability. So many Christians have managed to tie down such a revolutionary truth within the context exclusive Christian cliques and strict and normative routines and its completely beyond me. If you remember anything from this post, please remember this: there is a world of difference between cultural Christianity and authentic discipleship. To me, the difference is blatantly obvious, but from all the distain that is targeted toward Christians in general because of the image that cultural Christianity portrays, Im led to believe that the general public does not understand the distinctions (which is exactly why Im writing this). The gospel doesnt point its finger from a safe distance at all the wrong it sees in the world. It offers up everything it has in order to dive into peoples lives to love them from a place of trust and genuine relationship. Let me make something clear, just because you are actually seeking to know and be close to Christ does NOT mean that you are never selfish or hypocritical. What it does mean is that you digest your brokenness differently than a cultural Christian would. Since our righteousness has already been purchased by the blood of Christ, we can know that when we mess up that that sin has no power over us. Theres no need to try and self righteously pretend its not there, because our identity is found in Jesus and not in our actions. Instead of saying, if people knew I did this, they wouldnt respect me, we can confidently say, its good for people to be aware of my brokenness, because the gospel isnt for those who dont need forgiveness. Jesus didnt die for us because we deserved love. Jesus died for us because he IS love. Someone who truly grasps the beauty of the person of Jesus Christ will constantly be pleading for more of him and less of themselves.
