There’s only three days left of 2014—and it’s looking all but certain that it will go down as a new record-breaker: the hottest year ever recorded. That would make 2014 the 38th consecutive year with an anomalously high annual global temperature, according to the World Meteorological Association’s latest report. We are in a race against time. Climate change is already costing lives, exacerbating droughts, altering crop yields, and threatening wildlife from the equator to the poles.
