“These days, modern African music is changing. The messages it sends are becoming more and more abject. Instead of fighting against bad morals like the great [musicians] once did… all current African music trends, especially the rhythmic ones like ndombolo, coupé décalé, zouglou and many others, are contaminated by a notorious virus … music artists frequently cite in their songs –what a paradox- the name of elites who pillage state funds for their own commercial aims” Patou Nsimba wrote on RNW that African musicians devote themselves to promoting politicians for money.
