This Sunday the San Francisco Chronicle did a write-up on the whole Amador County area, where Hotel Sutter is located. It does a great job of describing the area and the fun adventures you can experience when visiting it. The link to the full article is below. Michael Bauer, their Food Critic who visited Hotel Sutter as a mystery shopper, describes his visit to Hotel Sutter, along with many other places he visited: Hotel Sutter Just by walking by this newly refurbished hotel, you can sense that the food will be good. It sports wood floors, brick walls and an old-fashioned bar like many others, but theres a sense of sophistication that comes with the dark color scheme and the bountiful arranged bouquet of fresh flowers at the entrance. The chef is Darius Somary, who returned home to raise a family after working at Oliveto in Oakland and owning SpringLoaf Catering in Lafayette. When the chicken pot pie arrived with a shiny golden crust, next to a manicured pile of baby carrots and zucchini, it was evident that the kitchen staff was well trained. The dices on the squash were perfect, and the molten interior of the pie was filled with a well seasoned sauce with carrots and hunks of meat. Somary also offers fried Brussels sprouts interspersed with applewood-smoked bacon and a side of lemon aioli, and such things as a smoked salmon plate with rye toasts, a classic burger and pulled pork sliders with cole slaw and french fries. At dinner, where the most expensive main course - grilled rib eye with sauteed mushrooms and a potato-leek gratin - is $25, theres also a pancetta-wrapped meat loaf with smoked tomato glaze and mashed potatoes and a pan-seared salmon with tarragon beurre blanc. From the start to the finish of a frangipane cake dimpled with raspberries, his Bay Area pedigree is front and center. sfchronicle/restaurants/diningout/article/Gold-Country-dining-embodies-region-history-5217517.php#/
