This is a new one: Last night we had an opossum (oh, lets just call it a possum) in our yard. How did we know this? Because when I opened the patio door to let Biscuit out to go potty, he made a beeline for it and got into a tussle with it. Actually, he more or less tussled it. It played dead. But we had to drag him off of it and yes, we did a THOROUGH check to make sure he was OK. No scratches that we can find, but he does have an appointment with his vet on Monday, just for peace of mind. Just a heads-up to everyone to keep a look-out for wild animals in the yard. This has NEVER happened to us before here (or at our old house, although the herds of deer in our yard there drove Cleo nuts LOL). Feeling very lucky it wasnt worse. Possums dont fight back, but had it been a raccoon or -- Lord, have mercy, a SKUNK -- the outcome would have been much different. For what its worth, the wild beast left the yard within 15 minutes of us going inside and turning out the outside light. Not sure if its all right, or it toddled off to die. :(
