This is about a thought that crossed my mind while I was having chat with guys from ‘manta ray’ comics over lunch. A tangent from the main discussion got me thinking about the stories that we don’t tell. The stories we just discuss and discuss over and over again, with ourselves, with friends, with people who has nothing to do with stories or storytelling. The stories that linger on but always make us feel like it’s not yet time to write them down, and occassionally, we are not ready to even start something like that. I have a bunch of them in my head. I always had. The more I keep it in there and think about it,the more complicated it gets. Then at some point, it starts to become something else. I have stories which I’ve dug into the details so much, they became like scientific experiment reports. But the more I think about them, I can see a wierd connection to toys. Remember those toys you had when you were a kid? Story ideas, for me, had always been like them. The new toy keeps you all excited for sometime. The more you play with it, the more familiar you become with it, it gets boring. Then there comes a point where you don’t even wanna look at it like a toy. Then the child in you grows beyond the level of entertainment the toy can provide. And then you want to open up the toy and see how everything works. I think stories should be written when you can feel them, not when you are ready and clear with every minute detail. Like a good toy, play with the idea, enjoy doing it, then pass it on before it gets boring. Well, I am writing this basically as a note to self because today I strongly feel that telling half baked stories are better than keeping it as a raw material on the top shelf so noone, including you, can’t and won’t reach it ever again….
