This is an appeal to pupil masters. Most of you, and indeed all of you, are doing great job, teaching young lawyers to be competent and useful members of the society, as advocates or other legal personnel. Many have gained knowledge and experience in your offices as pupils, without cost. I hope you will continue doing the job of supplementing what Kenya School of Law is doing. However, I have seen a few, very few indeed, pupils who say that they are not given anything, even bus fare alone, during the period of pupillage. In particular, one has told me how he has been struggling to go to the office for lack of fare. I know that training a pupil is not a legally enforceable duty on your part; you are not indeed under any obligation to give the pupil a stipend. But as human beings with diverse needs, it has been a practice to give them some fare or lunch. Is it too much to give something small? My appeal is that as much as possible, please help the young persons so that they also respect you for the rest of their lives. They should not remember you as a difficult pupil master who did not care at all..
