This is my submission for the Hass talks. Feel free use any part of it or comment on what points I should have raised, I can send another, as can you all..... The status of Northern Ireland both as a country and its place within the United kingdom is being eroded by the words of Nationalist Politicians. In order to properly promote the country government ministers must use the name Northern Ireland when referring to our country. The term “the north of Ireland” is unacceptable and misleading and must be removed. When referring to the whole island it must be made clear that there are two countries, terms like “the island of Ireland” and “Ireland North and South” must be replaced with “both in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland” The National Flag and the National Anthem are necessary to underline the existence of Northern Ireland as a country. It is impossible to promote a country when you are offended by these two vestiges. The flag must be flown prominently from government buildings and the National Anthem must be played at events where it is appropriate. Some examples are at National and International sporting events such as The World Police and Fire Service Games we recently hosted, International Football (soccer) matches, national cup finals. Government ministers attending such events must arrive promptly at these events and not delay there entry so as to avoid being “offended” by the National Anthem. Pride in your country is a prerequisite for holding office across the world, there is no reason for that not to be the case here. The Good Friday Agreement provides for people to portray themselves as British or Irish, this needs amended to include Northern Irish, if there is to be any forward movement people need to agree this country exists, that should be the starting point. Politicians must admit there past actions. Shinn Fein must be held to account for there part in a murder campaign perpetrated against the Protestant community. People who are guilty of murder are not acceptable in public office, this is a international standard, there is no reason Northern Ireland should not follow convention in this matter. There must be a clear destination between perpetrators of violence and victims of violence. The person who plants a bomb in Northern Ireland is a perpetrator and the person who is murdered in the explosion is the victim in the same way the person who flew a aircraft into the Twin Towers is a perpetrator and the person murdered in the attack is the victim. There can be no glorification or shrines to terrorists. To this end the Maze Prison needs demolished and the rubble dispersed at a unknown location. Any Piece and reconciliation center must focus on the victims, not the perpetrators, again this is a international standard. Education must be integrated, and the history of this country must the taught in a honest manor. The Roman Catholic Church has too much influence in education, teaching should be a matter for teachers, while churches have a part to play in the education of our children, it should not interfere with academic achievements. The police must be held to account, the currant onbosman office has been tainted by links to extreme republicanism and other political affiliations. There is no place on the policing board for people who have previously murdered or attempted to murder law enforcement officers, the whole system needs replaced. Following a report by Amnesty International that found the Historical Enquiries Team had failed the victims this also needs replaced with a body that will actually investigate who was involved in the thirty year attempt to remove the Protestant Community from this country. The political policing and victimizing of the Protestant Population must end forthwith. Solutions must be found to parading issues. The Parades Commission has proved its self to be totally inept and needs replaced by a body with the ability to make reasonable determinations in a unbiased way. The state news providers must cover events in a clear and honest fashion. Where Republican terrorists are responsible for planting bombs they must state this in there reports. The term “dissidents” must be removed. The so called “dissidents” were at one point members of Provisional Irish Republican Army, they are using the equipment that the Irish Republican Army failed to decommission. The renaming by the media is misrepresentation in order to pretend the piece process is intact, however a bomb a day (weather it explodes or not) would not constitute piece in any other country, I see no reason that should be the case in Northern Ireland. panelofpartiesnie/submissions/
