This is sad yet predictable. The game has now gotten to the point where the refs can slant the game in the direction they choose. Here is the winning touchdown pass. Here, on a nationally televised game, with everything on the line, the quarterback, the obvious focal point of any play, is free to take his time because an offensive lineman clearly hooks and holds the defender. Amazingly, this wasnt even the worst call of the quarter. Bottom line: Far, far too much power goes to the refs. Of course they are only human and will make mistakes; thats a given. But they far too often determine the outcome of the game. Perhaps they dont literally cheat, but they surely improve the odds of some teams. They slant the game one way or the other. Thus, they avoid the label of being those who fix the game while generally getting whatever result they apparently want.
