This man was shot dead in an open carry state for holding a toy gun he picked up in the store while shopping. Another customer saw him with it and called 911 and reported a over six foot tall black man was waving a gun around, another said he was pointing it at children, and a third ex-military man said he could tell the black man was headed to violence. Police responded and basically shot him on sight without bothering to see if any of that was true because he was doing none of that when police arrived. The family has only been allowed to see a portion of the survalence tapes but what they saw confirmed that John was standing there bothering noone, with the fake gun barrel pointed down mind you, talking on the phone and minding his own business. His last words were a frantic plea for sanity and his life that went unanswered- its not real! Believe me, if the cops had footage showing that John threatened someone in that store with the fake gun that he picked up off a shelf they would have released it. Instead the police are trying to make him the bad guy by assassinating his character with unrelated incidents that have nothing to do with what happened in that store. Wal-Mart is going along and refuses to release the tapes so we can all see exactly what happened. This is not a he said she said because we dont know what transpired but because the police and the retailer wont tell us. That is unacceptable. Who kills someone and then tries to justify their actions by making him sound like a bad person? Yeah we shot him but he had a couple of previous run ins with police, which we didnt know when we pulled the trigger, so good riddance, right. Both the trigger happy police and the paranoid patrons who made false reports of his behavior should be held accountable for this mans death if those tapes prove that John did not threaten anyone with that fake gun. I shudder to think that someone I love dearly, my brothers, uncle, cousins, could be murdered by a cop because some bigot who happens to be shopping in the same store as him calls the police and claims they feel threatened. I realize many of you dont have this problem, this will never happen to you. But all that is needed for evil to prevail is for good men to stand by and do nothing. Please dont stand for this miscarriage of justice. John and his now fatherless son deserve better.
