This month Lake Guntersville hosted the biggest and best 5-fish - TopicsExpress

This month Lake Guntersville hosted the biggest and best 5-fish amateur tournament we have seen in many years! It not only was the SPRO Frog Tournament a great forum for fishing but also a meeting of quality amateur fisherman who found ways to catch big sacks of fish using only a frog on a highly-pressured lake that had been beat up all summer long in tournament after tournament—not even counting another frog-only tournament a month earlier. Creativity was abundant as fishermen took to the waters to match their wits and frog-fishing skills against the elements. Most times when amateurs take part in such a tournament, it’s a safe bet that someone is making money off the entry fees and that the fishermen will not recoup all the dollars paid in. Not in this case! The SPRO frog-only tournament returned every entry-fee dollar to the fishermen. 40-plus places paid out, and even the value of give-away promotional products was greater than the participants paid in entry fees! With a solid foundation laid down by SPRO Tournament Director Jim Leary and hard work by his staff, every participant received free SPRO frogs, shirts, hats plus high-performance products such as Duckett Rods, gear from T&H Marine and Yamaha Motors, and fishing tackle from Punisher Lures, Tight-Line jigs, and Mister Twister. More prize money was paid out for Big Bass. “Beat the Pro” participants had a shot at more cash going head-to-head against the likes of FLW angler Troy Morrow and BASS Elite pro Dean Rojas. Boat manufacturers like Phoenix, Bass Cat, and Skeeter also put up boat owners money for the winner! Reviews from this year’s participants were highly complimentary. The SPRO tournament filled up regional hotels, restaurants, and tackle stores. This year’s 238 teams of participants was just a start; next year’s event will be even bigger and better. Plans are already being made to accommodate 300 or more teams of participants in 2014. Look for even more and better promotional product giveaways, too. Lake Guntersville just a little too long a trip for you? Don’t despair. Starting next year, the tournament will become a nationwide event with similar SPRO Tournaments staged throughout the country.
