This snapping turtle was found hanging out around by the Sand Ridg Nature Center parking lot. They believe she was trying to find a good place to lay her eggs. Did you know that the gender of snapping turtles are influenced by temperature? Eggs incubated at a cooler temperature tend to produce males while eggs incubated at higher temperatures tend to produce females. Note: When you encounter a snapping turtle, or any turtle, never pick up the turtle by it’s tail. You could do serious damage to the turtle’s spine.
