This summer St. Francis grad Matt Finkelberg ’13, a sophomore at the University of San Diego, had the experience of a lifetime as part of a study abroad program in South Africa. The political science course, Politics and Development in South Africa, afforded the students the opportunity to conduct a 13-day leadership workshop while living in a local village in the Makuleke region of northeast on the edge of Kruger National Park. Matt, the only male student in the group, had the unique privilege of sleeping in a traditional hut. During his time in the village, he had the chance to teach the students, play with the kids, and interact with the people. A cultural eye-opener to say the least, Matt was humbled by the kindness of the South Africans and encouraged by the immense joy of those with whom he interacted. GO KNIGHTS!
