This year, it seems like everyone and their dog is running a race - TopicsExpress

This year, it seems like everyone and their dog is running a race to raise funds for a cause dear to their hearts. Im taking this literally. I am running the half marathon in the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon on October 19 to raise money for Social Planning Toronto, and Copper Campey Guzman, the six year old Vizsla who has stolen the hearts and minds of everyone she meets, is one of the Neighbourhood Champions for Toronto Neighbourhood Centres in the same event (although, since dogs are not permitted in the race itself for safety reasons, she will be running the same course a week early to avoid the crush). Im writing to ask for your support. You can help us in a number of ways: You can sponsor me. Last year, I committed to run the marathon in a belly-dancer outfit if sponsors raised over $5,000 - and generous sponsors donated over $8,000 in support (and yes, there ARE pictures...) This year, Im doing the same for the half-marathon, with the additional commitment that for every $1,000 above that initial $5,000, ANOTHER belly-dancer will join me in running the route. You can make your donation on my SPT page at https://secure.e2rm/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?registrationID=2563685&langPref=en-CA. You can sponsor Copper. As a Neighbourhood Champion, she has her own fund-raising page - you can check it out, read her story, and make your contribution at torontowaterfrontmarathon/en/nc/nc3.htm. Copper is also becoming quite the social media maven - her Twitter handle is Runningdogcoppe (please follow and retweet her!), and her Facebook event page is Coppers Canine Challenge https://facebook/events/685379168215218/?ref=br_tf. She is sharing her progress, training tips, and a dogs perspective on life, squirrels, and other topics of interest to all species of runners. In the attached video, Copper shares her reasons why you should give her your support. You can run yourself! Social Planning Toronto is one of the official charities in this years event - so if you want to run the Marathon, Half-Marathon, or just run or walk the 5 Kilometer course, you can register as part of Team SPT. For information on how to join us, you can check out the attached instruction flyer, or contact Team Captain Steve Kyriacopoulos at [email protected]. By registering through Team SPT, you can get a full charitable receipt for your registration - and any additional sponsors you get will also receive a charitable tax receipt for their sponsorship. Team members will also receive spiffy SPT polo shirts, and a chance at fabulous prizes, including tickets to some of Torontos best entertainment. Please help Copper, myself, and SPT to reach our fundraising targets (Im hoping that at least a few of you will sponsor me. I know Copper is much cuter, but my fragile self-esteem will suffer if she raises dramatically more money than I do).
