Tonight my father is being inducted into the Brockton High School Athletic Hall Of Fame, a pretty big honor for a guy who never excelled at any sport while at BHS (his storied softball career came later). He has however, been a member of the Hall induction committee for many years, and has been responsible for seeing that many deserving athletes got the recognition they so richly deserved. He also sat through hundreds of football games during good seasons and bad ones in all kinds of weather, went to basketball games in the dead of winter when many of the players own parents wouldnt attend. He has been a constant booster of all things Brockton for his whole life. He may have never sunk a game-winning basket or broke a tackle and ran in a touchdown, he might have never pitched a no-hitter, or put one past the goalie from the blue line, but nobody will ever be as proud to be included among those who did as will my dad, Robert Swift.
