Tyrone POOL Association: ------ rballsports Tyrone Pool Association committee members, junior players and management have returned home from the 2014 Irish Junior Pool Festival organised by Irish Pool Association which took place in the beautiful Breaffy House Hotel Castlebar Co.Mayo at the weekend past...........(Friday 2nd --- Sunday 4th May). The junior players representing the Cross Community County Association produced outstanding performances in all junior categories with Under-19s being crowned All Ireland Junior Team Champions for the 5th time in the history of this brilliant and prestigious junior event and not forgetting the gallant effort put in by Tyrone Under-15s who reached the final only to be defeated by the brilliant Wexford team on a last game decider 5-4. This year seen the Irish Pool Association introduce a new event to its junior tournament diary when the Irish Under-12 Pool Championships took centre stage with Tyrone Pool Association also well represented with four young U-12 players reaching the 1/4-finals and Owen OBrien putting in a fantastic performance throughout the tournament to reach the final only to be defeated by Patrick Daly from Co.Kerry. UNDER-19 JUNIOR TEAM: ---- All Ireland Junior Team Champions A brilliant performance came from Tyrone Junior U-19 Team throughout the weekend to be crowned All Ireland Inter County Junior Team Champions with this superb team of players producing quality pool match after match to give Tyrone Pool Association their 5th All Ireland Junior Team title in the history of this brilliant and prestigious junior competition organised by Irish Pool Association. The Inter County Junior Team Championships was played in groups in a round robin format with the top two teams from each group progressing into the knockout stages which seen Tyrone qualifying from a tough group involving the following counties Leitrim B, Wexford B, Mayo A and Westmeath. In the semi-finals Tyrone defeated former champions Leitrim A with all players producing top quality performances to progress into the final where they came up against a very good Mayo team who knocked out former champions Wexford in the other semi-finals. Tyrone lads showed all their experience and held the nerve throughout the final to come back from 7-5 down to win the remaining three games for a 8-7 victory to be crowned 2014 All Ireland Inter County Team Champions...........................team members Carl Martin, Gerard McDermott, Ciaran Fay, Eoin Burns, Steven McGurn and team manager Frank Fay. UNDER-15 POOL TEAM: A fabulous performance also came from Tyrone U-15 Pool Team who played outstanding pool over the weekend to reach the final only to be defeated on a last frame decider 5-4 by former and current champions Wexford A but over all Tyrone U-15s played solid pool in the round robin group format to overcome the challenges from the following counties Roscommon, Mayo, Wexford B, Westmeath and Leitrim B to progress to the knockout stages. In the semi-finals Tyrone U-15s defeated Cork on a 5-0 score-line before losing to the impressive Wexford A in the final 5-4................team members Gerard McDermott, Callum McGlinchey, Oisin Wallace, Galvin McDermott and team manager Damien Corrigan. IRISH UNDER-12 POOL CHAMPIONSHIPS: This year seen the Irish Pool Association introduce a new event to its junior tournament diary when the Irish Under-12 Pool Championships took centre stage on Sunday 4th May with up on 30 players taking part and Tyrone Pool Association was also well represented in this category. Tyrone Pool Association travelled to the West Of Ireland town with 18 young rising stars from the Q-Sports Academy Club Fintona for this new U-12 tournament with all players competing in a high profile event for the first time with each and every player enjoying the challenge against the best under-12 players throughout Ireland with the following two players Karol Galka and Owen OBrien reaching the semi-final stages and another two Tyrone players Ryan Roberts and Darren McKernan was narrowly defeated in the 1/4-Finals. Young Owen OBrien put in a fantastic performance throughout the tournament to reach the final only to be defeated by Patrick Daly from Co.Kerry after Owen was leading 5-3 before potting the black for victory only to see the white ball drop into the pocket with Patrick Daly (Kerry) then winning the last two games for a 6-5 victory. Overall Tyrone Pool Association and Q-Sports Academy Fintona are very proud of these young players on their performance and the way they conducted themselves throughout the tournament and also well done to Owen OBrien for reaching the final and defeating the tournament favour Sean Walsh (Cork) in the semi-finals on a 4-3 score-line. Frank Fay (U-19 team manager), Damien Corrigan (U-15 team manager), Ronnie Boyle and Daryl Beattie (U-12 managers) all parents who travelled to Castlebar, Chris Beattie, Briege Beattie and not forgetting all the players who represented there county with pride and conducted themselves very well over the weekend.
