UDHAMPUR: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today announced Rs. 70 lakh for modernization of Housing Colony roads and drainage system of Udhampur district. This announcement was made by the Minister during his inspection tour to Housing Colony of the district, here today. MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, District Development Commissioner, Yasha Mudgal, Director Horticulture Anil Kumar Sharma, Managing Director Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board (JKHB) Ram Pal Sharma besides other senior officers of Housing Board and Horticulture Department accompanied the Minister. During the inspection, Mr. Bhalla asked the Managing Director JKHB to start work on the projects within two days, adding that there is no constraint of funds to meet the development needs of the inhabitants of the colony. He said Government has framed a comprehensive plan to develop all the newly as well as already existing housing colonies on modern lines with upgraded basic amenities. The Minister called upon the inhabitants of the colony not to dump debris on road side, adding that such practices not only create problems for the visitors but also breeding ground for many chronic diseases. During his visit to the Housing Colony, Mr. Bhalla observed that some allotted plots by Housing Department are without any construction, as a result open spaces are totally becoming dumping yards. He asked the Managing Director JKHB to issue notices to allottees for making construction or else cancel the allotment order within 15 days. Responding to the demand of locals, Mr. Bhalla asked the Managing Director JKHB to prepare estimates for modernization of colony nallah and submit the same for funding so that the project could be started soon. Regarding development of Housing Colony park, he issued instruction to JKHB to prepare detailed project report for developing the place on modern lines ere. The Minister said that Government has completed the survey of unauthorized housing colonies in urban pockets for their regularization, adding that in this regard a fruitful decision is expected at the earliest. Mr. Bhalla said after regularization of unauthorized Housing Colonies in urban pockets, the localities would be developed with improved basic amenities. The Minister informed that Government has also completed a survey to develop all the slum basties under Rajiv Awas Yojna (RAY) across the State, adding that in this regard, a concrete proposal has been submitted to Central Government for funding. He said after release of funds, the basties would be developed with all basic amenities at par with urban pockets of the State.
