UPDATE on Erin : A few key things that have happened in the last couple days. Erins cast was removed a day later then planned. They took it off Wednesday morning, giving her 1 day to adjust to using both arms before dismal. She was thrilled to finally be able to itch her arm and use it to help with daily tasks that she couldnt do with her left arm. Her progress with therapies have also been improving everyday. Erin is now able to lift her left arm above her head and is getting more strength in it to grasp small objects. She has also been able to walk up and down stairs more gracefully then before. The big news today, Erin got to go HOME! Wow what an exciting day it has been. Since last night, she was feeling a little sick and nausea. We are thinking most of this was nerves of finally being able to go home. She started off the day bright and early with one last occupational therapy at 7am. After this she had her last hospital breakfest. We then got ready with makeup, hair, and a brand new outfit and shoes. Before discharging we went up the the 8th floor, the ICU unit that Erin was in for close to a month, to make one last round. It was both terrifying to recall the memories but also exciting to see how many people recognized her and were excited to see her. Walking through the halls, many nurses came up to Erin and gave her hugs and shaked her hand. They were SO excited to see her and the progress she had made. They all said what an inspiration she has been to everyone. Although Erin doesnt remember any of these people, she was truely touched by all the nice reactions she got. After being discharged we went to Red Lobster, Erins favorite. The waitress was kind enough to crack Erins crablegs to get the meat out since she isnt strong enough to do so with her left arm yet. After eating we started the journey home. You dont realize how much that word means to someone until you havent been able to go home for 2 months. Once she got into the driveway, there was a big welcome home sign drapped across the garage door as well as a bunch of welcome home signs in the house from the Pope family vacation. It was so exciting watching Erin being able to go through her own home again. After she got done touring her house, she gave a big shout out saying, Im home! After relaxing and taking a nap from an exhausting day, Erin wanted nothing more then to just relax and enjoy herself. Taking a nap here is a bit different then the hospital. The bed here is much taller for her to get into then the hospital but it is much more comfortable. It was the first time in 2 months that Erin and Bryce got to sleep together in there own bed. We had supper, showered and are now watching the Twins game. It feels so great for her to be home!! We will have a grill out on Saturday with family to welcome Erin home. After a relaxing weekend, Erin will start therapy back in Rochester on Monday. She has sessions Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. She will continue these sessions for quite some time as her left arm still needs quite a bit of rehab. I asked Erin if she wanted me to post anything specific today and she stated, I am just really excited to be home. Erin, you have worked so incredibly hard to get home and we have been waiting for this moment for 2 months! We are very proud of you Erin and you have been an inspiration to a lot of people. Keep pushing forward, you have amazed us all with your strength and determination.
