Update from AACPD HANOVER On Sunday, July 21, 2013, at approximately 7:45 a.m., officers from the Western District responded to The Maryland Live! Casino located at 7002 Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover for the report of an attempted armed robbery of a citizen. Also, while on scene, officers learned of another incident of an armed robbery of a citizen at the same location involving the same suspect. In the first reported incident, officers learned that at approximately 7:44 a.m., a 71-year-old female was approached by a male suspect, who attempted to rob her at knifepoint. The victim advised she was about to enter an elevator at the casino when the suspect approached. The suspect attempted to take her purse from her possession at knife point, but was unsuccessful. The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim was not injured in the incident. While on scene, officers learned of the second incident at the same location. In that incident, a 35-year-old female victim indicated that she was seated inside her vehicle in the parking garage of the casino when she was approached by the suspect, who pointed a knife at her and demanded money after opening her car door. The victim turned over an unknown amount of currency to the suspect, who then fled the area. The victim did not receive any injuries. Numerous officers canvassed the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. UPDATE: Detectives from the Western District immediately began investigating this incident and were able to identify a suspect with assistance from alert witnesses and security personnel along with surveillance footage at the Maryland Live! Casino. An arrest warrant was subsequently obtained charging the suspect, Paul Johann Morin, 32, of 6505 Homestake Drive South in Bowie, Maryland, with armed robbery, robbery, second degree assault and related charges. On July 22, 2013, the suspect was taken into custody and processed at the Western District police station. He has since been committed at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center. “I want to thank the detectives who worked quickly based on the information they received to bring this case to a closure,” said Chief of Police Kevin Davis. “Without our partnership with the Casino and the vigilance of the witnesses, we would not have been able to bring this case to such a quick resolution.”
