Update from Kais forever family, shes a puppy mill survivor. We are so excited to tell you that yesterday—for the first time since joining our family January 18th—Kai did not come in from the outside and run like a bat out of hell straight for the couch! She came inside on her own, sniffed around the laundry room a bit, shared a drink from the water bowl with her BFF Malik (first time she has sought out food or water on her own, too), sniffed around a bit more, and walked slowly and calmly to the couch. My dad was so excited he called me at work right away to let me know. This is huge progress!! She really seems to love the outdoors as well. We laugh at her rolling around on the grass and like seeing her enjoying herself in the sun. She is like our Malik and the late Wilbert in that regard—they love being in the yard. Our two girls hate the outdoors, sun, and heat so I just figured she would be more like them. I know this past weekend marked her one year anniversary of freedom; I saw that her rescue buddy Journey climbed on her mama’s lap for the first time recently too. Maybe now that they have been free a year they are learning to enjoy the good life and starting to trust more.
