VITAMINS FOR THE MIND by Ron Reynolds #3308 (Friday, June 7, 2013) Thoughts and Journals It’s rather fascinating what will happen in the coming years if you begin today to write some of the things in your journal that you’ve thought, read or heard. Here are a few from my own journal from years ago: Those who think themselves too big to do the small things are often too small to do the big things. The best form of education is not in teaching people to know what they do not yet know, it is in teaching them to behave as they do not now behave. Ignorance is far more costly than education. Our comforts and conveniences tend to weaken our physical stamina and our moral fiber. We must be eager to run great risks in order to enjoy great gains. Quite often, we must ‘get rid of’ before we can really expect to ‘get.’ You must have strong, long-range goals to help pull you past the many short-range obstacles. Those who waste time regretting ‘yesterday’ will likely waste tomorrow regretting today. Business sometimes interferes with pleasure, but it often makes greater pleasures possible. Do what must be done as quickly and as well as you can so you can do what you really enjoy for as long as you can. Success is not so much learning new skills or gathering more experience as it is recapturing old emotions. Failure is only something you experience, not something that you are. The two emotions that lead to human progress are – restlessness and discontent. Real happiness isn’t something you experience, it’s something you remember. The exceptionally good writer does not write because he or she is inspired, they get inspired because they are writing.
