Varuns Diary (Thursday) Ni hao and greetings from Shanghai! Its taken me a DECADE to obtain permission to film on mainland China so I am VERY excited to be here. The flight from London was just over 10 hours and with the +7 hour time difference, I am not sure where (or who) I am! My mind is a wee scrambled. OKAY - so China does NOT allow Facebook or Twitter ... so I am sending my Diary back to the lovely PR-Sue who will post them for me. Hello! Yes! Hello! And greetings from the most populous city in China - 25 MILLION people on a busy day. I am staying at the legendary Fairmont Peace Hotel on the Bund (more on that later) in the most spectacular suite in the city. It is quite, quite big ... and yes ... well ... photos and rundown tomorrow. The flight was quite painless. I - of course - wept like a willow (as I always do on longhaul) ... this time set-off by a documentary which highlights the plight of huskies in Alaska. Thankfully Alice from the cabin crew was at hand with tissues and soft, soothing words! When it comes to flying I now understand what is the definition of happiness/sadness. Happiness is being offered the twin bed ... sadness is being in the bed without someone next to you! SO - enough is enough ... I am on the hunt for twin bed partner! These luxury travel experiences need a buddy to enjoy them with ... Anyway for this trip, I have Batman to keep me company. Enough for today ...
