Vathia (Greek: Βάθεια) is a little village in Laconia, Greece, on the Mani Peninsula. It is one of the most characteristic villages of Mani and it is famous for its grand towers (pyrgoi). It stands proudly, built on a peak of a hill, full of two and three storey impressive towers that along with the other stone buildings of the village, it creates a real fortress. It was mainly built during the 18th century, and it met its greatest prosperity in the 19th century. In recent years and after Greek National Tourist Organization’s intervention, most of the towers have been restored and converted into beautiful traditional inns. Now Vathia is a tourist attraction in spring because of its wild flowers that cover the nearby hills and its breathtaking views. Vathia, Mani, Peloponnese, Greece, Europe
