Voice of the people editorial regarding Yarmouth Ferry link. See below. I almost had a stroke reading a letter from a Porters Lake resident telling the Liberal government to get out of the ferry business. I was totally shocked that such an observation could be made or even considered. I live in the Annapolis Valley and I’ve seen the huge upsurge in American tourists this past season. The Nova Star brought southern Nova Scotia out of the touristic doldrums. I personally spoke to many of the tourists visiting our area and their visit was due to the new ferry. Whether it is the right ferry is not my concern. What I do know is that we need a ferry that can transport Americans through our southern port of Yarmouth. The slow start in May and June was to be expected, but the August and September numbers made up for it in spades. Porters Lake is not in the Annapolis Valley. If we listen to those who want the government to get out of the ferry business, what are we to do? Sell our homes and move to Halifax? Tourism was our fastest-growing industry this season.
