[WARNING: A post for which my ass shall be kicked.] Imagine a 14-yr-old boy watching whatever movie or tv-show. He sees women objectified and learns by that model to objectify women. But, if were honest, this does not tell the full story. Take examples like the movies Wolverine or Thor, or examples of tv-shows like The Vampire Diaries or Hannibal; we will see nothing but powerful and beautiful men. So, let us now return to that 14-yr-old boy learning about what women should be and think about what hes learning men should be. It is amazing and right and good that we are diversifying our female characters (I have tried myself even, in my small way), but I think the next major move we need is to diversify our male models, the things young males are taking as their way of living. What if we had less muscular, less cruel, more intellectual male role models? A multi-prong approach is the only way to change society.
