WHO offers technical knowhow to JK for quality health system J&K strides in health coverage under NRHM: Shabir SRINAGAR, JULY 03: The World Health Organization(WHO) has offered technical support to Jammu and Kashmir government for universalization of health care system and underscored the need to make the State polio free with special concentration to cover the remotest and border areas under the full coverage of immunization programme. This was revealed by the World Health Organization Representative in India, Dr. Nata Menabde during her meeting with Minister of State for Health, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan on the side lines of 3-day long National Summit on ‘Best Practices and Innovations in Public Health care System’ commenced today at SKICC. The WHO representative appreciated the Jammu and Kashmir Government for introducing Pentavalent Vaccine in its immunization programme, besides the new initiatives taken up for universalization of health care facilities in the State. She said that WHO desire to help the State in capacity building of manpower to render best services in annihilation of contiguous and non-contiguous diseases. She also suggested for encouraging upgradation of health care facilities under private sector in the State. Mr. Shabir gave a detailed brief of the steps taken by the State Government for universalization of quality healthcare facilities in the State. He expressed his gratitude to WHO for offering technical guidance to the government in improving quality health care facilities. The Minister said under the Flagship Programme of National Rural Health Mission, the State has made strides in covering various fields of Health sector. He said that Mortality rate in Jammu and Kashmir is lower than National level, while as, he said due care is also being taken for health care of mothers and children in the State. He said free treatment for Non- Communicable diseases has been started in 3 remotest districts of Kashmir Valley, while as, health infrastructure with installation of requisite diagnostic equipment in district and block level hospitals upgraded to large extent to ease rush of patients to tertiary care hospitals, adding that Government of India now also has launched Urban Health Mission throughout the Country under which the primary health care facilities in urban areas of Jammu and Kashmir would be also upgraded. Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Mr. Shaleen Kabra and Mission Director, NRHM also gave detailed brief to the WHO Representative for several programmes and policies of State and Central Governments taken for quality universalization of health care system in Jammu and Kashmir.
