Wall Twp Police-- Motor Vehicle Accident with 2 Overturned Vehicles on Hwy 34/Spring Street On Saturday, June 22, 2013 Wall Township Police responded to the area of State Hwy 34 and Spring St for a report of a three vehicle motor vehicle accident with two overturned vehicles. Glendola Fire Department, Wall First Aid, Community First Aid, and MONOC also responded. On scene investigation revealed that the two vehicles involved in the crash were headed north on State Hwy 34 when the crash occurred. As a result of the crash, one of the vehicles, a Nissan Sentra, left the roadway crashing into a utility pole causing the pole to sever at the base and also causing the vehicle to turn on its side. The second vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler, overturned and came to rest in the median of State Hwy 34. A third vehicle involved was an unoccupied parked vehicle. The Nissan Sentra had two occupants who were both transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune where they were treated and released with minor injuries. The driver of the Jeep, Roland Lopez, 52 years of age from Freehold was also transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for minor injuries; he was treated and released. Lopez was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, and two counts of Assault by Auto, a fourth degree crime. Glendola Fire Department stood by while Glendola Towing removed the two vehicles. JCP&L and Verizon responded to repair the down utility pole. NJDOT responded to assist with traffic control on the State Hwy. State Hwy 34 was closed in both direction from Belmar Blvd to Airport Blvd for approximately one hour. The investigation was handled by Sgt. C. Clark and Ptl. E. Lister While investigation the above motor vehicle crash this agency received a report of a hit and run type motor vehicle accident at State Hwy 34 and Hurley Pond Rd. The hit and run vehicle was described as a green Jeep Wrangler. Investigation in that crash revealed that Mr. Lopez was the operator of the hit and run vehicle. The driver of the vehicle Mr. Lopez hit was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for a complaint of pain where he was treated and released. Mr. Lopez was additionally charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, reckless driving, and assault by auto (fourth degree crime).
