Was the Apostle Paul a TENT maker (in the strictest meaning of the word) as Acts 18:3 states? Some scholars have said that Paul actually made prayer shawls and not tents. (The word tallit can mean tent or prayer shawl.) In Acts 16, he spent some time with Lydia, a seller of purple fabrics. NASB Was he adding the blue (purple) thread into the prayer shawls .......OR, was he making purple tents....OR .... WHAT was he doing? These are some rainy day ramblings of mine.....not meant to be theological thoughts....just ramblings. I watched a quilting video earlier showing ancient art quilts that were used as wall hangings. The video was showing how ancient tent-dwellers used a form of applique to decorate the inside of their tents. Apparently there was a huge hanging that divided the tent into two sections....one side for the men to meet together to conduct business transactions or just talk & eat together.....and the other section was for the women and children to conduct their daily activities. This hanging that separated the 2 sections was very decorative on one or both sides. These decorations consisted of appliques of beautiful colors and purple was the favorite color of the wealthier folks, especially if they were royalty. Since these appliques were so intricately hand stitched & took hundreds of hours to complete, the job was mostly given to young women AND to young men who had the necessary free time to do it. The decorated hangings eventually began to be used for bed coverings. The quilting video says this decorative art was the ancestor of modern day quilts. So MY random rainy day ramblings hereby proclaim Paul the Apostle was a QUILTER! Works for me. :)
