We are pleased to announce that SLYPA visited the Autism Resource Centre (ARC) located in Beausejour this Summer to meet the staff and pupils. SLYPA has been hosting several charitable events to raise funds for the currently financially struggling school throughout this year. ARC founded 7 years ago by founder Phyllis Gustave, is a Non-Profit Organisation that is focused on ‘Three Primary Areas’, Creating Awareness of Autism, Assisting Children with Autism and Supporting Families who have children with Autism. At the moment the school provides therapeutic services to only three (3) children as many parents with autistic children are unable to meet the financial demands of providing a holistic education for them. The President Desiree Chalmessin along with another member of the group Samantha Boland arrived at the School at 9:30 am and the kids, who have a prompt schedule from 07:30 am, were already settled in. The compound was clean and child friendly with cubicles where children could be taught individually and also assessed privately. It was clear on the visit that the school needed more equipment as the children have already mastered the existing ones. They have just started a garden where they grow bananas, pumpkins and watermelons. In Saint Lucia the number of children born with Autism is increasing as it is in the rest of the world. This is due to a better awareness of the disorder and improved early diagnosis. Families struggle to raise kids with this condition that few understand. It is our hope that we can bring awareness and support both through our events and by out sourcing various aids in helping the Autistic kids of St Lucia. It is a cause which SLYPA hold close to our hearts and we hope that our supporters will do the same. If you would like to make a donation, sponsor a child or just be part of this project you can contact ARC directly on 1 758-450-9964 or 001758 520 8292 or send SLYPA an email on [email protected] would be grateful for your support. Please share this, maybe you cant help but a friend may want too.
