We are told that fighting crime is heroic. But it really depends - TopicsExpress

We are told that fighting crime is heroic. But it really depends on the crime doesnt it? Often things like aiding a runaway slave have been a crime. In fact, for most of human history being a good and honorable person would have made one a criminal in the eyes of the State. Today we have laws against possession of natural plants, laws governing who people can marry, how they may defend themselves even laws restricting the transmission of math. Its essentially illegal to be homeless and we have a legal system which churns the poorest people through the system in order to generate revenue at for profit prisons. There are over a million pages of laws in the Federal register alone and its growing daily. Politicians consider it a sign of how productive they are when they add even more new laws. States have mountains more laws and a recent trend has vast power to create law delegated to agencies and appointees like the Obamacare administrators on the Federal level or the New York banking regulator who invent hundreds of new laws without being elected and without legislative process. The book Three Felonies a Day estimates that every American, on average, commits three felony level crimes per day. Essentially the government can lock up anyone they wish. Instead of focusing on fighting crime, lets focus on fighting evil... - Bruce Fenton
