We would like to bring it to your attention that many of our clients have recently started the process of nominating someone to act for them in the event that they are unable to represent themselves for any reason such as death or illness. The Foreign Citizens Advice Centre’s main campaign for 2013 is that very issue as our research has shown that over 90% of foreign asset owners have yet to make this provision. The need is further compounded by the fact that we are also dealing with many cases where clients have asked us to assist with releasing assets that have become frozen as a result of death or incapacity. As this is an important provision that any owners of property or other assets in Turkey, including bank accounts, should attend to in order to avoid the costly and time-consuming process of trying to administer assets via the courts you can obtain the latest version of our ‘Inheritance Fact Sheet’ at adviceturkey.org which answers many of the questions we are being asked and which I hope will make interesting reading.
