Weather Bulletin Number Seven Tropical Cyclone Warning: Tropical Storm “#NandoPH” (KONG-REY) Issued at 11:00 AM, 27 August 2013 (Valid for broadcast until the next bulletin to be issued at 5 PM today) Tropical storm “NANDO” has maintained its strength and continues to threaten the extreme northern luzon area. Location of eye/center: At 10:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Storm “NANDO” was estimated based on all available data at 210 km East of Aparri, Cagayan (18.8°N, 123.9°E). Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph. Movement: Forecast to move North Northwest at 15 kph. Forecast Positions: Tropical Storm “NANDO” is expected to be at 100 km North of Basco, Batanes tomorrow morning and at 460 km North of Basco, Batanes or in the vicinity of Northern Taiwan by Thursday morning. By Friday morning, it is expected to be at 740 km North of Basco, Batanes or at 280 km North of Taiwan. • PSWS # 1(Winds of 45-60 kph is expected within the next 36 hours): Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, Apayao and Isabela. • PSWS # 2(Winds of 61-100 kph is expected in at least 24 hours): Batanes Group of Islands • Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 – 25 mm per hour (heavy - intense) within the 400 km diameter of the Tropical Storm. • “NANDO” will bring moderate to heavy rains over the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur. Likewise, it will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon which will bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon. • Sea travel is risky over the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon. • The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5 PM today.
