Wednesday, July 31, 2014 Richmond will not have surgery tomorrow. He tested positive for mrsa and staph. All of us were very concerned about proceeding with the surgery knowing what a terrible infection that these bugs can cause. After talking with the surgeon today, Luana cancelled the surgery. Richmond will see an infectious disease specialist before having the bone flap replacement surgery. I am relieved, to say the least. The very little bit I know about the super bugs plaguing hospitals is scary. Last night I checked webmd and read the facts. That was enough. It has been said many times that this surgery is routine. My answer has been that maybe it is routine for some people, namely the department at the hospital and the surgeons involved; it is not routine for us. There are risks involved in every surgical procedure, but we worried that with Richmond testing positive for staph and mersa, the risk was greater. I dont think of this as a set-back, only a delay. Please continue to pray for Richmond. We appreciate all the prayers and support. Peace Amen. Hillstrong!
