Well i was taken to court by Bradford for non payment of council - TopicsExpress

Well i was taken to court by Bradford for non payment of council tax last year just before Christmas. At that point they were charging £85 for a liability order, which has since been dropped to £40, after lots and lots of complaints from myself and no doubt others. When I arrived at court I was told that there were no magistrates sitting that day and that I would not be able to see one. This was the story being told to all people there, they were then expected to make arrangements to pay, of course I didnt. just a few weeks later I received a liability order against my benefits (ESA) when I questioned how the council had managed to obtain a liability without a magistrate, I was told that they did not have a clue what I was talking about and of course nobody had been turned away from court. Afterwards I submitted a FOI request asking how many people had been summonsed to appear on that day at that time. The answer was an astonishing 4,266. How could magistrates ever deal with such a large number of people in one day if they had all turned up?? They couldnt. More to the point though is that Bradford Council lied to every single person that turned up to see a magistrate that day and took 4,266 x £85 for just one day. That is a total of £362,610. Now consider that Bradford do this once a week! Every time I have written to them asking why they were charging £85 for a liability order which has a set price of £3 set by the law, they try to tell me they are allowed to charge what they want. Every time I ask why I and others were lied to regarding magistrates, they deny their actions. Im currently waiting for my next summons. I am hoping that they are still lying to people about magistrates as this time I intend to interview people on camera that have been turned away on this pretense, I will then send them a copy of the video and see what excuse they come up with.
