Well, today has been a long day! A surgery that was originally scheduled for 2 hours lasted 5 hours. Part of that was the precision of taking biopsies at each step, sending it down to pathology and moving on. They did a procedure to clean out and open up all her sinus cavities into one big cavity. First, this allowed them to get to each nook and crevice to make sure they found any suspicious or abnormal looking tissue. This also allows them to better examine the complete nasal cavity on a regular basis to monitor for other abnormalities or concerns. During the pathology, they found one area that was abnormal and like a mass. They removed all of it along with an area around it. They are hoping they got enough to show clean margins and no need for anything further other than the already planned chemo and radiation in that area. Another area looked fine, but on the quick pathology showed some abnormal cells. Additional pathology will be conducted on all biopsies to make sure no abnormal cells are visible through more thorough examination. For the 2 areas of concern, the pathology will take up to 2 weeks. If it comes back clean or with the abnormal cells being benign or something innocent, all will continue as planned. If the areas show the abnormal cells are tumor or cancerous, more surgery including a craniotomy may be needed. While the news wasnt as wonderful as it could have been, the ENT and neurosurgical team were happy with the good results they did get. While the areas of concern certainly concern them, they are not going to assume it is tumor or cancer! They keep saying it could be cells affected by the chemo and just showing as abnormal. I kept telling the team how many people had PRAYED for them today and how pleased we were with the great results they did have! For today, I will take those greats and goods and positives and PRAISE for the PRAYERS that have been answered and for the ones we know will be answered in the next week. Because of the extensive anestheia, an anesthesiologist who loves our girl and wanted to be sure she rested comfortably and didnt wake up too quickly, and lots of pain meds, Tacey has been sleeping most of the time since she got out of surgery. She prefers to sleep right now, so we are tying to let her do just that! They will monitor her tonight and manage her pain. Tomorrow morning, they will decide whether to send us home or not. It is expected by everyone that she will be more than able to be released tomorrow! She really would prefer to be released right now so she could go home and sleep in her OWN bed she informed us! I wish you could have witnessed the looks on the faces of the medical team as I told them that thousands of people were PRAYING for them specifically at 11:30 this morning and throughout this process. It was awesome!! Thank you for your PRAYERS today and everyday!! Thank you for sharing Taceys story and asking others for PRAYERS!! Thank you for allowing God to use you in such a special way for our family on this journey!
