What an incredible year! At some point over the holidays my feed from twitter stopped posting messages to our page on Facebook so those if you that are not in my personal feeds missed out on the interesting events that unfolded at the end if the year. Baby Christian came early, we went to our normal 38 week appointment to find out we needed to rush to the hospital for an emergency delivery, Christian was fine but Jeanene came down suddenly with preclampsia, her whole pregnancy was a bit too perfect up that point so we needed some additional excitement in out lives.... Delivery went well however Jeanene was still feeling awful even after delivery. They kept us for several days for observation and we were released in New Years Eve evening. We spent the evening with our parents over to see Christian but we were bushed so went to bed before midnight but Christian woke just afterwards to remind us of the new year and to start it off with a bottle. New Years Day Jeanene was feeling really crummy again so we left for the ER under the recommendation of the in call Dr. When we arrived her chest felt constricted and the BP was elevated so they readmitted her back to Labor and Delivery for observation and some new meds. We spent another 2 days at the hospital before being discharged again under new meds for Jeanenes BP, typically Preclampsia goes away within the first 24 hours but hers was lingering still. We were home for less than 14 hours before needing to head back to the ER at 5AM. I took Jeanenes BP around 4:30 and it was scary high so back to the ER we went. This time when we arrived we given a room immediately and meds started upon arrival. They readmitted us, this time for the long haul until we get things under control. Let me say this about Baylor, at all point and stops along this journey were we not treated with the very best care possible. The first 2 times we were discharged were a bit early since its rare to see preclampsia linger like it did but also because insurance wants to get you out as soon as possible. This visit I refused to leave until we had consistent blood pressure under at least 36-48 hours on the new med doses. Dr Cope who delivered Christian was also back from vacation also wanted to keep her for longer observation. After another 4-5 days at the hospital we finally had things under control and Jeanene was finally feeling good again (as much as a woman can feel after delivery and the scary crap she went through) Fast forward....weve been home now for a few weeks from the hospital, Christian has been amazing, he was sleeping through the night pretty much the day we brought him home. Hes been quite the blessing and a very easy baby compared to some of the stories some of you have told me over the years about your LO in the very beginning. From week 2 to week 3 Christian gained over 1 lb 8 oz. Hes breaking all kinds of milestones: he smiles a ton (not gas, although he has plenty if that too), he holds your fingers with earnest and pulls himself up, hes rolled over twice front to back and back to front although not done it recently again, he feeds himself with a bottle when we allow him, Ill attach a video for those that dont believe us that at 3 weeks he was feeding himself, hes found his thumb on more than several occasions, hes got latching down now and even did it all by himself without any assistance last night. I knew from taking pictures of newborns over the years and Id always tell my parents of new LOs that they would change so fast but honestly now I can say from experience how quick that is! Through this whole experience weve not once experienced a sense of dread of like the world was collapsing in on us. We have an amazing God and a wonderful family and great network of friends. The meals provided over the last few weeks were a Godsend and helped us through those first few weeks tremendously! We feel we have started to get Jeanene Johnson blood pressure under wraps now, we were even able to reduce the dosage somewhat and will reduce it again hopefully in the near future once again but we are taking baby steps. Please continue to pray and lift our family up as we continue to experience this new journey and may God continue to bless yours.
