When I first saw this image of public toilet house in a courtyard - TopicsExpress

When I first saw this image of public toilet house in a courtyard on the small island of ibukijima in japan, I was uninterested and felt it was quite unattractive. What a surprise to see how the light plays inside the structure! daigo ishii + future-scape architects has sliced a typical gable-roof building volume with a network of seemingly random vectors, resulting in the structure’s walls and slit windows. the project celebrates a typically avoided building type, and is conceived in a way which relates it to its position in the world and placement in time. specifically, the disparate angular geometries are informed by the direction of travel to specific international cities (tokyo, london, nairobi, new york, san paulo, and sydney) and the solar orientation at particular times of local ceremonies and celestial events (9:00 a.m. on five dates)
