When my Dad first took me to the Boulevard Pools in the mid-50s we sat up on a hill overlooking the whole place and he said to me, Do you notice anything here? Nope!, says I. Look carefull he says to me. No colored people. (Only a couple of families.) He said they charged a fee, which they could call a membership fee and then if a colored family showed up, the gatekeeper could ask them if they were members. It was a lot different than the public/city pool we usually used.
