Whether or not we want to admit it the scale can negatively effect - TopicsExpress

Whether or not we want to admit it the scale can negatively effect a greater majority of physique athletes. I have seen it on numerous occasions turn even some of the most heavily muscled athletes into an athlete solely focused on seeing a number decline. A successful contest prep should never be measured in the amount of pounds lost rather it should be measured on the amount of muscle retained. If the scale is dropping down weekly yet we are loosing the physique in the process than what are we gaining? I would love to see a change in mindset take place where the coaches base changes off of the progress shown through pictures rather than relying so heavily on what the scale says. This would mentally aid the athletes that we are working with so much to have their coaches be assessing and making changes off of visual evidence and not a number alone. This is also a great challenge and callout to us coaches to do whats in the best interest of the athlete. Creating an environment of being focused on numbers also leads to the decline of the athlete mentally. We should have no trouble doing our job based off of consistent pictures. Lets stop chasing a number, chasing a class and start chasing elite physiques after all there are no scales on stage rather just visual evidence of the contest prep so lets start placing more of the emphasis on that along the way.
