While crossing the Valelevu ground early yesterday morning with a few friends, something interesting caught our attention. From a distance we saw a group of young men sitting around in a circle, head bowed and praying. Obviously, they were not Sunday worshipers as they appeared to have just finished playing sports. When we got near them, we realized that they were members of the ‘Last Call’, a singing group from the Newtown Adventist Church. I excitedly greeted them, not because I knew them but because I was fascinated at what they were doing. After a few exchange of words, I discovered that this was their routine every Sunday morning. They would start with some sports followed by a talanoa (sharing) and then ends with a prayer session. What a fun way to spend Sunday mornings, I thought. While doing Foundation at USP a few years ago, I recalled what a friend of mine said, after I decline an invitation for a ‘gunu-sede’ (grog fundraising) on a Friday evening. ‘You Adventists must be a bunch of boring people. You always miss out on the fun’, he said. Although I didnt feel offended, but I had to make my point. I looked straight into his eyes and calmly replied ‘We have our own ways of fun’. While an average young person will be sleeping in on Sunday mornings after a long night, here was a group of young men having fun through playing, talanoa and praying together. As young people in the Adventist church, we don’t have to be boring and dull. We can be adventurous and outgoing, showing the world that we have our own way of fun! May God bless the ‘Last Call’ Ministry, as they minister to others through songs and music.
