While in the Essentia Hospital to get my left knee replaced, with an artificial knee, I was pretty much stuck watching our government in action on the TV that was provided. Yes, I could have watched something more educational on most every other channel but I chose to watch our House of Representatives in action. I didnt like what I saw! Our House of Representatives was having hearings about Ebola and the CDC (Center Disease Control). The scientists from the CDC were treated like political enemies and the politicians acted like they know more than the CDC about disease and policy related to the spreading of Ebola. It was obvious that some of the politicians, about half of them, were just trying to score political points and trying their best to connect President Obama to the tragedy surrounding the Ebola outbreak in Western Africa. It was embarassing to watch these scientific novices in action. I was wondering, why are they not grilling President Obamas Surgeon General? After all, it is the job of the Surgeon General to provide Americans with the best scientific information available on how to improve their health and reduce the risk of illness and injury. The reason is that WE DONT HAVE A SURGEON GENERAL! President Obama nominated Dr. Vivek Marthy for the position of Surgeon General over a year ago but the House members have stalled that nomination because the NRA didnt like that Dr. Marthy said: Gun violence should be considered a public health issue. Since when does a Super PAC/organization get to select who is going to be our Surgeon General? Dr. Marthy is very qualified. He is a Dr., an instructor, and a public health advocate but his nomination sits in a House committee while the politicians take shots t the CDC. If this wasnt so serious, potentially costing American lives, it would be laughable! If they had done their job this past year, they would have had a Surgeon General that they could then blame Ebola on! We must get our representative government back in the hands of the people! I think we must Move To Amend our United States Constitution to do so!
