White-tailed doe browsing along woodline on Lighthouse Road at the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge near Tallahassee, Florida. This doe is the mother of three fawns that have been showing up at the same time every evening to forage on leaves, needles, buds and twig ends of trees and shrubs. Several weeks ago the fawns stayed close to their protective mother, but in recent days they have become more independent feeding on their own and bounding across the field with seemingly unlimited energy.
