YOURE INVITED! Labor Day, this Monday, 10am The City of Key West will honor me and my Team on the anniversary of our historic swim from Cuba to Florida (the actual day is Sept 2, but we finished on Labor Day and Labor Day will always bring back our inspired memories of all the years of work, of belief, and final achievement). Almost the whole Team is here with me in Key West now. Many of us will go to Havana the next couple of days where the Cubans will fete us with several official receptions and where we will thank them for all they did for us over the years of this quest. Then back to Key West for our Labor Day ceremony where the City will install a bronze plaque at Smathers Beach, where we finished, after swimming 52hrs, 54 mins, 18 secs, 110.86 miles. The City has also commissioned a bronze sculpture to be placed in a public space some time in 2015. I am so darn proud of my loyal Teammates, starting with my bold and fearless Head Handler Bonnie Stoll. Bonnie and I went to the finish spot today (our picture below), which took us back to last years emotional end to a journey of 35 long years. If youre anywhere in the vicinity, the public is more than welcome to celebrate with us. Come on down. And enjoy your Labor Day weekends, all of you!
