Yea Im not too excited about UTRGVs new mascot, Vaqueros. Booo. Lol but on a serious note, when I was going to college in Michigan, many people freaked out when I said I was from Texas. They expected a cowboy with a southern accent. It was definitely a stereotype that I fought against constantly. Texas is huge, of course theres Cowboys but not many in the valley. I believe this hurts the overall uniqueness of the valley. UTRGV had an opportunity to reinvigorate this college/RGV, instead I feel like it just dumbed down this college. A name is very important. We are diverse and we dont have time for that. And Because of that, Im taking my talents to Tamaulipas University next year, home of the chupacabras.
