Yesterday I was unwell, but it was “Mother’s Day” and my son got me a surprise-Tickets of Amazing SpiderMan II for 6.20pm show. I, my friend and her son also joined us. We had taken recliner seats as my back is very bad (hectic campaigning without any rest is taking its toll). The National Anthem started before the movie and my friend pointed out, “Dekho woh aadmi baitha hain”. I thought he must be physically challenged but when I looked carefully, I could see he was a young chap sitting on a recliner seat with his feet up straight aiming at the screen where the National Anthem was being played. I don’t know what happened to me. Though I am not a bold person other than during my political field, I went to him and softly asked him first but he just ignored me. I could not hide my anger anymore. “Are you unwell?” I asked. He arrogantly replied “No”. I requested him to stand up for the National Anthem. He responded in a very rude and careless manner- “It is a free country!” I shot off, “Of course, it is a free country. That’s why we have our own national anthem so please stand still when our national anthem is being played”. His response was “this is a free country and I won’t stand up”. Friends, because you are living in a free, democratic country, are you allowed to disrespect our national pride?? How can someone even think in this manner??? Only if you would have been born in a country which is not free, then you would have understood the true value of freedom. If you think, sitting in a movie hall and showing your feet to our National flag is freedom, then are we even aware that how many lives are lost daily in making our life safe? How many hands, minds are working every moment to create infrastructure that we use every day, to make roads that we travel on and you simply say it’s a free country!? What is your contribution for this freedom that you are showing such disrespect?? Guys, whenever and wherever you observe such things, do show your disgust and put it across… Even if one out of 100 people changes, it’s our contribution towards our National flag, our National Pride!!!!
