Yesterday marked three weeks since we lost Garys mom, Shirley, to cancer. She was diagnosed and had surgery last April, and was given a prognosis of 3 - 6 months. She was with us 10 1/2 months, and for most of that time she was TRULY WITH US. I am so grateful for that time we had. As I reflect on that time, I am struck with the importance of BEING THERE for those we love, whether that be physically present, attentive in conversation, in thought, or in prayer. I am not usually philosophical, but this continues to come back to me and fill my thoughts. It is so easy to get caught up in the business of our lives, to get caught up with differences and disagreements, and lose track of what is truly important. Lord, help me to daily commit to truly be there for those I love.
