Yesterday the bus drivers went back into negotiations, hopeful - TopicsExpress

Yesterday the bus drivers went back into negotiations, hopeful that with the huge outpouring of community support, the drivers reasonable demands of work with dignity, and a resounding victory in City Council, that CCTA management had gotten the message: Its time for management to compromise, to back down on its push for 13.5 hour split shift days. But no. After nearly 18 hours of negotiating yesterday--with bus drivers even compromising on more part-time drivers with no benefits--management still refused to budge on the working conditions that the drivers need for their health and family life and that we need for safe roads. Today, in the face of these attacks on drivers fundamental right to work with dignity, the rock solid drivers union again inspired an enormous solidarity movement to grow even larger. With collective power of so many of our friends and neighbors we pushed back with a historic rally with a mile long list of endorsers, a brass band, top notch folk singers, a massive crowd including fired up labor and student movements. If the CCTA management thinks our movement will sit idly while they try to strip our bus drivers of their right to work by dignity, or bust this union theyre dead wrong.
