Young Indian Marathi Director SRIHARI SATHE is a talent to watch out for-! His debut film EK HAZAARIYE NOTE ( A THOUSAND RUPEE NOTE) ,about a poor farmers wife whose life changes (for the good, and the bad),when shes given a thousand-rupee note, won 2 awards,at IFFI- the Special Jury Award, and the Centenary Award. The young director shot the film with his personal funds, and was proud to cast veteran Marathi stage/TV/film actress Usha Naik,to play the lead. Sathe is also the co-producer of the arresting Pakistani film DUKTHAR (DAUGHTER), which he represented,at IFFI too. Thats quite an achievement- to represent an Indian and a Pakistani film,at the biggest film festival in India ! Dukthar was directed by Afia Nathaniel, who was Sathes colleague,at the film-school in Colombia Varsity .Shes married to an Indian banker, and lives in New York, where Sathe has a home too (in addition to Mumbai). The story of Dukthar could easily happen in India! said Sathe of the story of a mother trying to escape with her daughter,in order to prevent the latter from being forced into a child-marriage, like her. The film created waves at the Toronto Internat Film Festival, where I first met Srihari and Afia (Pic 2).
