ZEYA meets hospital board and management on recent happenings at the facility: The executives of ZEYA met with the board and management of the Zabzugu hospital on thursday to deliberate on pertinent issues affecting the hospital. Present at the meeting were the doctor of the hospital, the administrator and the board chairman Alhaji Awal Munkaila. The district director of health was also invited but was absent due to a workshop he is attending at Tamale with the hospital matron who was also invited. The meeting discussed issues ranging from management of the hospital to how patients are treated at tbe hospital and anti-snake bite venom. Issues 1.Executives wanted to know why pregnant women are charged after delivery even with health insurance and the docs response was that the midwives are not suppose to charge a penny after delivery and when he reported to the hospital and heard of this issue,he talked to the midwives and they agreed to put a stop to that. What he could not defend was the women paying for the rubber used in the process of delivery and some other medicines if they are used which are not covered by NHIS. 2.On the anti-snake venom the administrator explained that the hospital is usually given only 10 pieces every month which is woefully inadequate considering the number of snake bites in the district and urged government to liberalist the supply of the vaccine by importing it in larger quantities which can be subsidized and sold to victims of snake bites at reduced prices instead of the current situation where they are supplied in smaller quantities with strict instruction not to be sold. 3.On what the hospital is doing about the situation where females and children are sharing the same ward. The Doc explained that they have presented a proposal to World Vision to put up a childrens ward at the hospital and awaiting response from world vision which they are hopeful will be a positive one and also said they have other plans all geared towards the building of the childrens ward which he did not reveal. 4.On the maternity ward which is a major ward of interest to everyone the Doc said they are making everything possible to get more professionals into the ward adding that the ward has some challenges but they are working around the clock to surmount those challenges. He assured that they are working towards a zero mortality rate which he believes cam be achieved. A lot more were discussed and because all the hospital management members were not present,it agreed to reschedule the meeting to another date so all members of the board and management will be present for frank deliberations towards effective health delivery in the district. Members are therefore encouraged to contact the executives of ZEYA on any issue which they want discussed or sorted out during the next meeting with the stakeholders in health in the district or better still can leave them on this wall.
